The week I decided to move from Delaware to California, I was driving through the Virginias when Prefab Sprout's "Carnival 2000" came on the Cd player. The lrics struck me incredibly forcibly at that moment:
Tonight let's raise a glass my friend, To those who couldn't make it
A century has shut its eyes, And who are we to wake it ?
I was making a huge change in my life and taking an incredible leap of faith. I was uncertain if I even HAD a job, but I had loaded the car up and sold what was left. I wanted to find out if I could make it as a writer and entertainer, and I was ready to risk it all.
We ask for any wrong we've done, the years ahead forgive us
We ask for any good we've done? That all of it outlive us.
This song will always be tied to that moment, that event, the day I gathered enough courage to try living in a major city.
